Cups and Ice-Cream Sticks Make Mathematics Practical and Enjoyable
Raipur: Grade 1-I students of N.H. Goel World School explored division as equal sharing through a hands-on activity using the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach in their Cambridge Mathematics learning.
Using cups and ice-cream sticks, students distributed objects into equal groups and observed how quantities could be shared fairly. Handling the materials helped them connect the idea of division with a familiar, practical experience.
This concrete stage built a foundation for understanding division before progressing to pictures and numerical representations.
The activity made Mathematics engaging and accessible, allowing young learners to discover the meaning of equal sharing through active participation.
