Academics from DU, BHU and TISS Guide Students on Higher Education and Career Choices
Raipur, 31 October 2026: N.H. Goel World School launched the first edition of “Disha – The Guiding Dialogue,” an initiative designed to help students understand their interests, recognise their strengths and make informed decisions about higher education and future careers.

Held at the school’s Rangshilp Auditorium, the programme brought together distinguished academics from the University of Delhi (DU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai.

The event was attended by Mr. S. K. Tomar, Director Administration; Dr. Awinash Pandey, Principal; Ms. Shweta Das, Senior Coordinator; and Mr. Vinod Joon, Cambridge Head, alongside teachers and students.

Preparing Students for Future Challenges
A central panel discussion explored the changing nature of higher education and the expectations of the professional world. Speakers emphasised that examination marks alone cannot reflect a student’s full potential. Practical knowledge, effective communication, logical and analytical thinking, and adaptability are equally important.

The experts also highlighted the need to understand artificial intelligence and modern technology as students prepare for further study and employment.
Discussing undergraduate choices, the speakers introduced opportunities in traditional programmes such as BA and BSc, alongside interdisciplinary fields including liberal arts, social work and data science. They encouraged students to choose courses based on their interests, abilities and long-term goals rather than trends or market demand alone.

The discussion also covered internships, community engagement and interdisciplinary programmes, explaining how these experiences develop leadership, collaboration and professional skills beyond the classroom.

Three Focused Sessions on University Learning
Students participated in three academic sessions that offered a closer understanding of university life and its expectations.
Seminars, Workshops and Guest Lectures: Learning in University Life explored how these opportunities connect students with new ideas, subject experts and varied perspectives. The session highlighted their role in building confidence, communication skills and a broader understanding of academic subjects.

Essential Skills for Undergraduate Academic Excellence focused on independent study, research, analytical thinking, academic writing, effective expression, time management and discipline. Students were encouraged to ask questions, examine evidence and take responsibility for their own learning.
Beyond Marks: The Importance of Extracurricular Activities and Community Engagement examined how sports, cultural activities, volunteering and group projects contribute to personal development. Speakers highlighted the importance of empathy, leadership, social responsibility and problem-solving in becoming both capable learners and responsible citizens.
Connecting School Learning with Future Opportunities
The first edition of Disha helped students understand the transition from school to university and the value of purposeful, independent learning. It also offered teachers fresh perspectives on preparing students to become confident, articulate, adaptable and socially aware individuals.

The programme concluded with encouragement to remain curious, work consistently and embrace new challenges. By bringing academic expertise and student aspirations together, “Disha – The Guiding Dialogue” reinforced the school’s commitment to thoughtful career guidance and all-round development.

The initiative conveyed a clear message: education is not only about gaining knowledge or achieving marks, but also about recognising one’s abilities, making informed choices and contributing meaningfully to society.
