Mirrors, Shapes and Patterns Turn Mathematics into an Exciting Adventure
Raipur: Grade 3 students of N.H. Goel World School enjoyed an engaging hands-on learning experience as they explored Lines of Symmetry and Tessellation in the Maths Lab.
Discovering Lines of Symmetry
Using mirrors, the young learners discovered how certain shapes can be divided into two matching halves. They placed mirrors along different parts of the shapes, carefully observed the reflections, and identified which figures were symmetrical.
The simple visual exercise made the concept of a line of symmetry easy to understand and encouraged curiosity, observation, and experimentation.
Creating Tessellation Patterns
Students then worked with a tessellation kit to create attractive patterns by arranging repeating shapes without gaps or overlaps. The activity helped them understand how shapes can completely cover a surface while also allowing them to express their creativity.
The Maths Lab transformed abstract concepts into meaningful experiences. Instead of merely reading definitions, students could see, touch, arrange, test, and discover mathematical ideas independently and collaboratively.
The activity strengthened their observation, spatial understanding, logical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
