Group Experiment Introduces Solutes, Solvents, Solutions and Solubility
Raipur: Grade 5-I Cambridge students of N.H. Goel World School participated in an engaging group activity to explore the process of dissolving.
Working in small groups, students investigated what happened when sugar and salt were separately added to water. They stirred each mixture carefully and observed that the substances gradually seemed to disappear, forming uniform mixtures.
Through this hands-on experiment, students learned three important scientific terms:
- Solute: A substance that dissolves, such as sugar or salt.
- Solvent: A substance that dissolves the solute, such as water.
- Solution: The uniform mixture formed when a solute dissolves in a solvent.
The activity made the concepts of dissolving and solubility simple, visual, and meaningful. It encouraged students to make predictions, observe changes, discuss their findings, and collaborate effectively with their group members.
By the end of the session, learners could identify solutes, solvents, and solutions, recognise soluble substances, and explain the process of dissolving through direct observation.
