Grade 5 Student Dhaval Develops Innovative Automation Solution for Pot Makers

by omprakash.tripathi@nhgoel.com

Raipur, Chhattisgarh:

NH Goel World School, Raipur proudly celebrates the innovative achievement of Dhaval, a Grade 5 student, who has successfully designed and developed an automation-based solution to address a real-life challenge faced by traditional pot makers.

Identifying a practical problem during the process of pot making, Dhaval observed that both hands of the pot maker remain engaged while shaping the pot. This requires the potter to manually switch the wheel motor on and off, leading to two major issues — unnecessary electricity consumption and the risk of damaging the switch due to muddy and soiled hands.

To solve this problem, Dhaval developed a smart automated system using technology and coding. He programmed a solution in which an IR sensor detects the presence of a hand or elbow and automatically activates the motor. When the sensor no longer detects any movement, the system automatically switches off the motor. This not only conserves electricity but also prevents damage to the switch, ensuring hygiene and efficiency.

For this project, Dhaval used:

  • Arduino Uno
  • IR Sensor
  • Motor Driver
  • DC Motor

Demonstrating the working model, Dhaval explained how the system activates and stops automatically based on sensor detection, making the process smooth and energy-efficient.

The School Management expressed immense pride in Dhaval’s innovative thinking and practical approach toward solving real-world problems. Director Administration Mr. S. K. Tomar and Principal Dr. Awinash Pandey appreciated his scientific temperament and dedication to learning. They emphasized that NH Goel World School remains committed to providing platforms for students to excel in science, technology, and creative problem-solving.

The school continuously encourages young innovators by offering opportunities such as science exhibitions and global platforms like Odyssey of the Mind, where students can showcase their creativity and technical skills.

Dhaval’s achievement stands as an inspiring example of how young minds, when guided and encouraged, can create impactful solutions through science and innovation.
